Hun Sen announces public WiFi project

The government announced plans yesterday to set up public WiFi networks in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Battambang before 2023.

Speaking at the seventh National Clean City Day at Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel, Prime Minister Hun Sen said, “The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications plans to set up Wifi networks in a number of tourist destinations, particularly Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Battambang before 2023.”

In May last year, two parks in Phnom Penh were equipped with WiFi. The project cost $400,000 and was funded with a grant from the Korean government.
That same month the government unveiled plans to provide free WiFi to schools in Kampong Chhnang and Kampong Speu.
